Commenting, Chief Executive, Chris Shirling-Rooke said:
“At the inaugural Maritime UK Awards last year, we were proud to win the Coastal Powerhouse Award which recognised Mersey Maritime’s role as the leading regional cluster organisation in the United Kingdom. But our strength and our success only happens because of the members we represent and our role in championing their work at a local, national and international level. It is absolutely fantastic to see so many of our member businesses, each one of them touched by the unprecedented difficulties, uncertainty and pressure that the Covid-19 pandemic has placed on them, rise to the challenge of the last year and come out on top. From ports to professional services, the depth and reach the sector in our region is on show for all to see.
“The Liverpool City Region has once again shown why our £4bn maritime industry, which supports so many thousands of jobs and contributes so much to the regional economy really is a coastal powerhouse! We are proud of the achievements, resilience and hard work that each and every one of our member businesses is engaged in and which has been recognised in the success of our finalists. And we offer our massive congratulations to two of our best companies, Tapiit Live and Virsec who were winners in the Start-up of the Year and International Trade categories respectively. What a fantastic celebration of their work which comes as no surprise to our team.
“In just a few months’ time we will launch the annual Mersey Maritime Industry Awards, #MMIA21. This will be another opportunity to recognise and celebrate the maritime industry with a more regional focus on our own area. We look forward to doing so and hope all those who took part in the Maritime UK Awards will send their applications our way once again too!”
