Digital and Events Apprentice Joins the Mersey Maritime Team

By Mersey Maritime

Mersey Maritime are pleased to announce a new member of staff has joined their team. Abigail Milne has started this week with the Liverpool City Region’s maritime membership and cluster organisation as a Digital and Events Apprentice, working with the representative body to further enhance its work around these two areas of focus. Abbie will continue with her studies at Riverside College where she is working towards a Level 3 Digital Marketing qualification. With one of the noticeable impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic being a real shift to online activity and a focus on promotional activities in this arena, Mersey Maritime is sure this appointment comes at an opportune moment in its development.

Commenting, Chief Executive, Chris Shirling-Rooke said:

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Abbie to the Mersey Maritime team. And she comes to us with experience and a desire to get stuck in around the maritime industry which we are really pleased about, having already spent a year working with Peel Ports in Liverpool. We were impressed by her enthusiasm and interest in the maritime sector and all that it means to our region and its future prospects for growth, skills and jobs in the light of the ongoing pandemic challenge. As we build further our online and digital presence, having an injection of fresh thinking and someone with knowledge of all the latest techniques will prove invaluable. We are particularly pleased to be able to support a young person (even though she now makes us all feel incredibly old!) starting out in their career and taking the practical apprenticeship route to achieve their ambitions.

“Ever since March, Mersey Maritime has worked hard to remain focused on our driving purpose which is to be a strong voice for our members and to offer them activities, events and promotion relevant to their own work. From our digital Face-2-Face to our ‘Member Shout Outs’ on social media, we’ve striven to be relevant and interesting in this most challenging of periods. With Abbie’s input, we know we can do even better and we look forward to doing so. Watch this space!”

Abbie commented further:

“I am honoured to be working for Mersey Maritime as the new Digital and Events Apprentice. I have a strong passion for the maritime sector, from previously working at Peel Ports Liverpool. I can’t wait to engage with Mersey Maritimes members, and start working on innovative ideas to increase a bigger online and digital presence. I am so pleased to be a part of this team and I have already started on some exciting new projects.”
