Open to businesses of any size, this award will be made to a business that has demonstrated true commitment to supporting their employees and their wellbeing. The business will be able to evidence its dedication to personal and professional development, occupational health, staff satisfaction and HR initiatives for creating a supportive and engaging working environment.

Engineering Company of the Year - Sponsored By Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC)

This award will be made to a company that can evidence its credentials as a leader in its field, by demonstrating the delivery of innovative engineering solutions to challenging and complex issues in either structural, civil, mechanical or electrical engineering.

Applications may be based on a specific project or overall effect created and are welcomed from all engineering disciplines.

Environmental Impact Award

This category is open to a business, charity or organisation of any size, with the award being made to those that can demonstrate exceptional and deliverable commitment to addressing the challenge of the zero emissions, net zero and the green energy agenda within the maritime industry.
The award will recognise excellence and achievement in delivering a positive impact at a project or organisational level. There should be specific references and documented evidence of showing thought leadership and commitment to breaking new ground and leading the way with good practice.

Innovation Award - Sponsored By Royal HaskoningDHV

This award will be made to a business that has demonstrated originality of innovation in products, services, or practices. The business must clearly show the innovation’s impact in terms of one or more of the following:

  • Improved efficiency
  • Increased marketability
  • Measurable cost savings
  • Environmental impact
  • Improved market position

International Trade Award - Sponsored By Western Union Business Solutions

This award will be made to a business that is actively involved in international trade, having significantly increased its import/export activity; driving increased revenue, creating new jobs and/or positively affecting supply chains throughout the North of England.

Maritime 2050 Award - Sponsored by Maritime UK

This award is open to organisations of all sizes from across the UK that have significantly contributed to delivering the UK maritime sector’s long-term strategy, Maritime 2050. Companies entering this award should be able to demonstrate activity in support of the flagship strategy’s recommendations or seven themes: UK competitive advantage, Technology, People, Environment, Trade, Infrastructure, Security & Resilience.

Maritime Professional Services Award - Sponsored By Fort Recruitment

This award will be made to a business that provides professional services directly into the maritime and related sectors and in doing so has demonstrated a positive and/or measurable impact on the sector. Applicants may base their application on a specific project or the impact their services have had. Professional services providers may include but are not limited to: legal services, public relations, surveyors, consultancy, recruitment services, insurers and financiers.

Micro Business of the Year Award

This award will be made to a micro-sized business that has demonstrated real understanding of its target market, showing growth potential and sustainability in terms of turnover and/or impact on the sector.

A micro business is defined as employing fewer than ten employees and has a turnover or balance sheet total of less than €2 million (European Commission definition)

Positive Impact Award

This award will be made to a business, maritime charitable organisation, or other enterprise whose remit or business model is to bring about positive measurable change, whether this is to the lives or living conditions of individuals, the community or in terms of campaigns, projects and initiatives that are changing perceptions about the industry. Applicants may base their application on a specific project or the overall impact their services have in terms of bringing about positive change.

Rising Star Award - Sponsored By Royal Navy

This award will be made to someone under the age of 30 whose contribution has made a real and positive impact on the business in which they are employed. Nominations should be made by the business on behalf of the employee they would like to put forward. Nominees can be at any stage in their career or training and may be working in any role within the business, including apprentices.

All nominees for this award will require a face to face interview.

SME of the Year - Sponsored By Denholm UK Logistics

This award will be made to an SME that has demonstrated a real understanding of its target market, showing impressive growth, or growth potential and sustainability in terms of one or more of the following:
• Job creation
• Increased turnover
• Increased profitability
• Impact on their region
Small or Medium sized Enterprise, i.e. maximum 249 employees and turnover not exceeding EUR 50million (European Commission definition)
