A UK parliamentary general election will take place on Thursday 4th July 2024 and the various campaigns are already underway!
Mersey Maritime is non-party political and has always worked with a range of political stakeholders willing to champion our vitally important sector, regardless of their particular party colour or perspective on things. During the coming weeks, we will remain neutral but will remind those standing for election just how significant the maritime industry is in the Liverpool City Region, within the North West and across the whole country too.
There will no doubt be a lot of focus on the economy in the days ahead and an emphasis on the importance of jobs, skills and growth. The good news is that the maritime industry is absolutely pivotal to all those points and already makes a significant difference. Here in the Liverpool City Region alone, we know that:
1. Maritime contributes over £5 billion to the LCR economy in business turnover.
2. The industry supports over 48,000 jobs across every part of the sector.
3. For every job generated by the sector, 4.65 jobs are supported in the wider economy.
At a national level, a ‘Maritime Manifesto’ has been produced, which Mersey Maritime was pleased to contribute to the formulation of. It focuses on a number of key themes: people, infrastructure and green fuels – some of the most topical subjects being debated in the industry just now.

We look forward to working with whoever forms the next government and fulfilling our role of championing our industry to the very best of our ability in the months and years ahead.
