UK SHORE – Regional Update Event

About this event

In Autumn 2022, Mersey Maritime hosted an update and networking event on behalf of the Department for Transport to disseminate information around Round 3 of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition. We have now been approached for support in hosting a further UK SHORE regional update event aimed at high ‘Technology Readiness Level’ technologies. This follows on from the announcement from the Department for Transport on 06 February 2023 of a new ‘Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure (ZEVI)’ Competition, details about which can be accessed here:

In short, a multi-million-pound Zero Emission Vessels and Infrastructure (ZEVI) competition is being launched to help decarbonise the UK’s maritime sector. The ambition is that zero-emission vessels will set sail in UK waters within 2 years, on the back of £77 million of government investment in clean maritime technology. This is the first time in UK history the government is intervening to specifically target this level of funding on green maritime tech which is already well developed. The funding will take the tech from the factory to the sea – identifying which projects will have a long-term impact in reducing emissions. Successful projects must show they could use this money to work with major UK ports and operators to launch a zero-emission vessel by March 2025. Examples of such technology include battery electric vessels, shoreside electrical power and ships running on low carbon fuels like hydrogen or ammonia.

UK SHORE aims to transform the UK into a global leader in the design and manufacturing of clean maritime technologies. Key to this, will be continuing the development of clean maritime solutions through supporting the progression of high TRL technologies and bringing them closer to full commercialisation.

This event is intended to be open to all businesses and organisations within our region and will provide an opportunity to network and learn more about UK SHORE’s overall intentions. It will include briefing from UK SHORE officials, Innovate UK and Innovate UK KTN providing an update on future funding opportunities.

This event is eligible for Port City Innovation Hub participants.
