Policy Forum: General Election Manifesto

About this event

Giorgio Buttironi, Policy and Research Manager at Maritime UK will be joining us for our Policy Forum to provide an overview of the industry priorities for the next UK Government.

A UK general election is expected at some point in 2024 (it must be held at the very latest by January 2025). In past elections, Maritime UK, and its member organisations like Mersey Maritime, have sought to promote a set of policy ideas and themes to be presented to each of the political parties, with the intention that they take forward these points in their own general manifesto planning and priorities should they form the government.

2024 will be no exception. Building on the work developed by Maritime UK in recent years with the publication of a ‘Coastal Powerhouse Manifesto’ and ‘Programme for Government’, the process of putting together our industry priorities is now well underway in the form of a ‘Maritime Manifesto.’ This will be a key document which, besides stating the maritime sector’s main priorities over the next five years, will act as a springboard for future spending review bids.

There is an opportunity for Mersey Maritime Members to ‘have their say’ on what this document looks like and the priorities it sets. On Tuesday 30th January 2024 we will be joined by Giorgio Buttironi, Policy and Research Manager at Maritime UK, for an interactive session allowing those attending to input directly into its content. Giorgio will present the current thinking, overall format and areas of focus and then engage in a roundtable discussion to receive feedback from Members.

Come prepared with your ideas on:

  • Practical policies to help grow the maritime sector and develop coastal economies
  • Delivering net zero and cleaner, greener maritime solutions as we drive towards decarbonisation and 2050 objectives
  • Levelling up and job creation all around the UK’s coast
  • Strengthening the UK’s position as a globally competitive maritime sector
