On the 24 December 2020 the United Kingdom and the European Union concluded and agreed a comprehensive free trade agreement. This came days before the formal end of the ‘transition phase’ which marked the point at which the UK left the single market and customs union; a fundamental shift in our relationship.
We have already heard from a number of our members with both positive and negative feedback. Whilst it is still very early days, we want to hear your challenges and experiences so far, so we can better understand how you and your business are being impacted. We are always happy to take up specific challenges being experienced and to lobby where we feel we can make a difference. There is little more important in the industry in ensuring businesses are able to trade and function with as little hindrance as possible.
We are therefore hosting a roundtable event on 25 January 2021 for our members to deep dive into the issues that exist, with a range of organisations and export experts including Lesley Batchelor OBE, CEO of Export Boot Camps and Richard Ballantyne, CEO of British Ports Association, to deep dive into some of the technical issues that are raising their heads.
Our intention is that this will be a focused technical event which tries to address in a practical way the problems that might be out there and to then push for change as needed.
