Mersey Maritime Statement: Covid-19 update

By Mersey Maritime

Correct at 24 March 2020

In line with the advice from government, Mersey Maritime have now closed our Maritime Knowledge Hub office for the foreseeable future. However, we haven’t gone away! Every team member is available to you, at any time. Please contact us using the contact details below in the first instance:

At this challenging time, we would like to emphasise that our approach is very much to continue to support our vital maritime ecosystem here in the Liverpool City Region. We are very much still here for members and would welcome engagement with you all in the weeks and months ahead. As such, here are some of the services we are offering:

  • Members Directory – relaunch imminent. This new and improved public format is due to go live on the Mersey Maritime website very soon and will include a short biography of your company, a direct link to company websites, social media links and a link to Google maps which provides a full address, opening hours and telephone numbers. We are confident it will be a considerable improvement on the previous service we offered.
  • Online Member Surgery – first to take place on Thursday 26 March between 10am and 11.30am. Rather than a monthly, physical, member surgery opportunity, these will now take place weekly and via the ‘Zoom’ video conferencing application. Places will be limited to ten per session and will give an opportunity for members to engage direct with the Mersey Maritime time for an open discussion. To book a place for the surgey, please email: info@merseymaritime.co.uk (available on a first come, first served basis).
  • Digitial Face-2-Face to launch on Tuesday 31 March. Face-2-Face is one of our most important events and the core of the Mersey Maritime calendar. We have decided, for the period of the Coronavirus, challenge to take this online and digital and weekly for the foreseeable future. Every Tuesday at 10.30am (the time may change). Full details will be promoted on Wednesday 25 March – watch this space!
  • Social media “Member Shout-out”. Each day, starting on Monday 30 March, we will do an online shout out for members, starting with our small and medium sized enterprises. Across all our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn) we will post a small piece with basic information about each company, what they do and a link to more information about them. Please look out for these and retweet, like and share as appropriate. It is so important that we each promote ourselves and support our maritime sector as the situation nationally develops.
  • LinkedIn Members Group. This was launched a couple of days ago. It is open to all members and many of you are already engaged with it. Please ask questions and look out for useful pieces of advice that will be posted on a regular basis. Let’s keep in touch and share valuable insights across the maritime family.
  • Maritime UK. Mersey Maritime is in close contact with national and regional colleagues via the Maritime UK National and Regional Council. As such we are also part of a new ‘Maritime Business Continuity Taskforce’ which will report to the Maritime UK National Council, meeting for the first time this week. This Taskforce is intended as a forum for both Industry and Government to identify, discuss and to action initiatives to support business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will be pleased to represent any local positions via this forum.

NEW RULES ON STAYING AT HOME AND AWAY FROM OTHERS

The government position is clear at this time. Please ensure you follow it so we can minimise the overall impact that this Covid-19 challenge has on us all.

The single most important action we can all take, in fighting coronavirus, is to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives.

When we reduce our day-to-day contact with other people, we will reduce the spread of the infection. That is why the government has now (23 March 2020) introduced three new measures:

  1. Requiring people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes
  2. Closing non-essential shops and community spaces
  3. Stopping all gatherings of more than two people in public

Every citizen must comply with these new measures. The relevant authorities, including the police, will be given the powers to enforce them – including through fines and dispersing gatherings. These measures are effective immediately. The Government will look again at these measures in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows this is possible.

We will update you all fully once again in the coming days.

The Mersey Maritime Team.
